Overview of Program
Queensland X-Ray has always been at the forefront of neuroimaging and has access to large referring groups at our Mater campuses as well as Greenslopes Private Hospital. There is a considerable caseload exposure and specialist reporting available, such that a fellowship in this specialty is highly sought after. Numerous sub-specialist meetings are available to attend.
Neuro, Spine, Head and Neck Program Director:
Dr Sunil Kaniyur
Goals/Objectives
Our program trains radiologists in advanced neuroimaging and head, neck, and spine imaging services. Goals include providing in-depth training in MRI and CT techniques, as well as relevant interventional methods. Fellows will benefit from 1:1 teaching with sub-specialist radiologists, engage in self-directed study, and participate in multidisciplinary meetings with neurology, neurosurgery, oncology, and ENT specialists.
Fellows will manage a high-volume caseload of neuroimaging and head and neck studies under consultant supervision, gaining skills in consults, contrast administration, advanced imaging techniques (like functional MRI and DTI), and image-guided interventional procedures.
The program balances exposure between hospital and community imaging settings, allowing fellows to work on advanced studies related to neurological conditions, spine disorders, head and neck cancers, and post-surgical imaging. They will also gain expertise in neurovascular conditions, neurodegenerative diseases, and trauma.
In addition to clinical duties, fellows will engage in educational activities, multidisciplinary meetings, and research projects, equipping them for integration of advanced imaging skills into general or specialist practice. Upon completion, fellows will be proficient in interpreting neuroimaging and confident in advanced techniques and interventional procedures.
Prerequisites
Applicants must have attained RANZCR Fellowship, or overseas equivalent and are required to meet all requirements of the Royal College of Australian and New Zealand Radiologists (RANZCR www.ranzcr.edu.au) and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA www.ahpra.gov.au .
Applicants are chosen on the basis of clinical performance, knowledge of radiology, and professionalism demonstrated during radiology training, as well as a demonstrated interest in Neuro, Spine, Head and Neck imaging.
This position will only be filled if a suitable candidate is identified.
Application
To apply, please provide an introductory letter and curriculum vitae to Dr Greg Amos, Queensland X-Ray Medical Fellowship Director, greg.amos@qldxray.com.au.
My Neuroradiology fellowship, with a focus on brain, head and neck, and spine imaging, provided an exceptional learning experience that equipped me with the confidence to interpret a broad spectrum of cases and imaging techniques. The high volume and diversity of cases, paired with expert guidance from my Queensland X-Ray mentors, allowed me to gain valuable expertise in MRI, CT, and interventional methods.

Queensland X-Ray maintains up to date equipment and software packages, enabling access to advanced technologies and cutting-edge techniques, such as MRI with DTI. This fellowship was instrumental in shaping my diagnostic skills and clinical abilities, which continues to grow as a junior consultant via collegial support.
