Overview of Program
Queensland X-Ray offers cardiothoracic imaging utilising multimodality imaging and interventions for comprehensive investigations of chest, heart, and vascular diseases. Based in Brisbane, fellows will gain a thorough understanding of HRCT of the lungs, oncological imaging, cardiac CT (including coronary angiography, TAVI, and functional imaging), and cardiac MRI. Training includes participation in regular chest and cardiac MDT meetings, and exposure to echocardiography, nuclear medicine cardiac investigations, electrophysiology, and interventional cardiology procedures. Fellows are encouraged to pursue internationally recognised exams for cardiac MRI accreditation.

Goals/Objectives
Our program trains radiologists in advanced cardiothoracic imaging, focusing on the diagnosis of chest, cardiac, and vascular diseases using multimodality imaging techniques. Fellows will gain expertise in HRCT of the lungs, oncological imaging, cardiac CT (including coronary angiography, TAVI, and functional imaging), and cardiac MRI. Training includes exposure to echocardiography, nuclear medicine cardiac investigations, electrophysiology, and interventional cardiology procedures.
Fellows will manage a high-volume caseload of complex cardiothoracic imaging studies under consultant supervision. They will develop skills in providing consults, managing contrast reactions, and understanding advanced imaging techniques and post-processing. The program also emphasises interdisciplinary collaboration, with fellows actively participating in regular chest and cardiac multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.
The fellowship provides opportunities to refine procedural skills, including image-guided interventions relevant to cardiothoracic imaging. Fellows are encouraged to pursue accreditation in cardiac MRI through internationally recognised certification programs.
The program ensures balanced exposure to hospital and community settings, equipping fellows to diagnose and manage a range of cardiothoracic conditions. This includes expertise in the imaging of lung diseases, cardiac pathologies, vascular disorders, and trauma.
In addition to clinical responsibilities, fellows will engage in educational activities, participate in research projects, and contribute to multidisciplinary discussions. These experiences prepare them to integrate advanced cardiothoracic imaging skills into both private and academic radiology practice.
Upon completion, fellows will be proficient in interpreting a wide range of cardiothoracic imaging studies and confident in applying advanced diagnostic and interventional techniques to clinical practice.
Prerequisites
Applicants must have attained RANZCR Fellowship, or overseas equivalent and are required to meet all requirements of the Royal College of Australian and New Zealand Radiologists (RANZCR www.ranzcr.edu.au) and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA www.ahpra.gov.au).
Applicants are chosen on the basis of clinical performance, knowledge of radiology, and professionalism demonstrated during radiology training ,as well as a demonstrated interest in Cardiothoracic imaging.
This position will only be filled if a suitable candidate is identified.
