FAQs

    • Our team will provide any specific instructions at the time of booking and these should be followed carefully.
    • We recommend wearing a separate top and bottoms during your appointment as this makes changing for the examination easier.
    • In some cases, we may x-ray you prior to an MSK ultrasound. Please tell us if you’re pregnant.
  • You will be asked to lie or sit down on a bed and the part of your body we’re imaging will need to be visible throughout the examination.

The sonographer will move the transducer over the area of interest after applying a warm gel and may ask you to move into several different positions during the scan. A small amount of pressure will be applied to the area. Your sonographer will do everything they can to make you feel comfortable.

MSK is a dynamic scan and movement of the affected area is performed during the examination.

The sonographer and radiologist will work together during an appointment to ensure all the necessary images are captured. This means that sometimes, the radiologist will come into the room. You will be consulted before this happens.

  • An MSK ultrasound generally takes up to 30 minutes.

  • Each of our practices use a variety of equipment including Philips, Toshiba and GE machines.

Your MSK ultrasound will be performed by a sonographer who is a specially trained medical professional.

The images captured by the technicians are viewed by a radiologist who will provide a report of findings.
