About

Dr Frans van Tonder is an Interventional Radiologist who joined Queensland Xray in 2017. He completed his MBChB with First Class Honours in 2006, at the University of Cape Town and subsequently trained in radiology at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne. Dr van Tonder was awarded the MGF Donnan Prize for the most outstanding candidate in Australia in his FRANZCR final examinations and continued his training with fellowships in MRI and Interventional Radiology in Melbourne, whilst completing a Master of Medicine in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Melbourne. Dr van Tonder was actively involved in registrar teaching and research during this period, during which he worked as a VMO radiologist at the St Vincent’s public Hospital. He has published both locally and internationally and has an ongoing interest in research and teaching.

In 2016 Dr Van Tonder pursued further training in Thoracic Imaging and completed an observership in interstitial lung disease at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London. He has worked mostly at the Greenslopes and Mater Private Hospitals in Brisbane since joining Queensland Xray.
