Overview of Program
Queensland X-Ray has a significant volume of specialist and generalist MSK imaging in both community and hospital settings. With numerous sub-specialist radiologists, 1:1 teaching is available along with intervention and multiple specialist orthopaedic and sports medicine meetings. Fellowships are available in South East Queensland and Townsville.
MSK Program Directors:
Dr David Oar - South East Queensland
Dr Peter Brookfield - Townsville
Goals/Objectives
Our program prepares radiologists for the high-level provision of musculoskeletal (MSK) imaging services. The goals are to provide advanced training in MSK radiography, CT, MRI, and image-guided intervention. Fellows will receive 1:1 teaching with sub-specialist radiologists, engage in self-directed study based on a formal curriculum, and participate in multidisciplinary conferences, orthopaedic and sports medicine meetings, and journal clubs.
Fellows will manage a high-volume MSK imaging caseload, including routine and urgent studies, under consultant supervision. They will gain experience in providing consults, managing contrast reactions, understanding CT and MRI image acquisition for MSK radiology, and performing routine interventions such as joint injections and biopsies.
The program offers balanced exposure to both hospital and community-based MSK imaging, with opportunities to develop expertise in sports medicine and orthopaedic imaging. Alongside clinical duties, fellows will participate in educational activities and research projects to prepare for integrating advanced MSK imaging skills into general or specialist private radiology practice. At the completion of the program, a fellow can expect to be proficient in the supervision and interpretation of MSK imaging studies acquired from a range of CT and MRI platforms.

Application
To apply, please provide an introductory letter and curriculum vitae to Dr Greg Amos, Queensland X-Ray Medical Fellowship Director, greg.amos@qldxray.com.au.

The fellowship at Queensland X-Ray gave me an incredible opportunity to learn from highly experienced radiologists. I was able to engage with a high volume of complex cases across both community practices and hospital settings. This exposure helped me refine my diagnostic skills and interventional techniques. The broad range of cases and hands-on procedures I worked on during my fellowship laid a solid foundation for a fulfilling career.
