Queensland X-Ray Supporting Delivery of Australia’s First National Lung Cancer Screening Program

Queensland X-Ray is proud to announce it will be a provider of the Australian Government’s new National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLSCP), launching on 1 July 2025.

Through the NLSCP, Queensland X-Ray practices across the state will provide low-dose CT scans at no cost to eligible Australians*. By removing financial barriers and promoting early screening, the program aims to detect lung cancer earlier and help to improve patient outcomes.

To participate in the screening program, patients will need a referral from their GP/healthcare practitioner.

Lung cancer screening is a quick, non-invasive procedure that uses low-dose CT imaging to detect lesions and signs of cancer before symptoms appear. By identifying lesions or abnormalities early, the screening program provides an opportunity for timely intervention to improve health outcomes.

Dr Sanjay Dhupelia, Queensland X-Ray Radiologist, said: “This program gives at-risk Australians access to critical, potentially life-saving screening. We’re proud to be a provider of this program, supporting the Government in helping to improve outcomes for Australians diagnosed with lung cancer.”

The program is available to Australians aged 50-70 who show no symptoms of lung cancer but have a history of smoking.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Australia. The Australian Government's National Lung Cancer Screening Program is expected to save approximately 500 lives each year.

As a participating provider, Queensland X-Ray is committed to delivering high-quality imaging services, ensuring that eligible Australians have access to the best possible diagnostic care.
