Queensland X-Ray & CQU Partnership

In 2025, Queensland X-Ray and CQUniversity formed a partnership to bring the Bachelor of Medical Imaging to Cairns and the Far North Queensland (FNQ) region, aiming to address local workforce shortages by training radiographers to work in the region after graduation, with an initial intake in 2026.

With support from the Australian Government, CQUniversity is expanding its Cairns campus by constructing a new Allied Health and Engineering wing. The new medical wing in Cairns is expecting to be completed by 2028. In the interim, Queensland X-Ray will provide students in Cairns with access to its imaging practices as part of their learning experience.

Interest from FNQ students in the direct application enrolment round exceeded expectations, reinforcing the impact of bringing the Bachelor of Medical Imaging (MI) course to Cairns and creating the largest health enrolment in 2026.
