Townsville PET/CT Centre Now Open
The Queensland X-Ray practice at the new Mater Private Hospital - Hyde Park will house the second PET/CT scanner for Queensland X-Ray and the first for North Queensland.
“Having worked closely with the medical community in Townsville I know how important this new scanner is in providing state of the art diagnosis for cancer patients,” said Dr Stuart Ramsay, Queensland X-Ray nuclear physician specialising in PET/CT. “Cancer patients who are already sick and facing medical bills, currently have to fly to Brisbane for this diagnostic procedure. So having a PET/CT closer to home is very much needed.”
PET/CT combines the anatomical information of high-resolution diagnostic CT with the functional information from PET. The combination of the two scans has proven to be extremely sensitive for detecting the early stages of disease, in particular cancers, and can detect abnormalities even when cancers are too small to be detected by other methods. This can have a major impact on choosing the best treatment for patients.
Queensland X-Ray’s radiologists and nuclear physicians have unrivalled experience with this ground-breaking modality, and continue to set the clinical standard with a collaborative approach to oncology imaging for diagnosis and monitoring.
The PET/CT Centre will form part of the latest Queensland X-Ray practice on the ground floor of the new Mater Private Hospital - Hyde Park. More information about this new practice can be found here.
