Queensland X-Ray has a variety of referral forms relating to different areas of specialisation.
In accordance with guidelines from the Health Insurance Commission (HIC), certain restrictions exist as to the type of procedure a physician can refer.
General Referrals
Medical Practitioners are able to refer patients for Plain X-Ray, Screening (Barium Studies, IVP), CT Scan, Ultrasound, Duplex Ultrasound (Arterial, Venous DVT, Venous Incompetence), Additional Vascular Lab Tests (eg. Treadmill, Cold Stress), Echocardiography, Diagnostic Mammography, Breast Ultrasound, Screening Mammography, Angiography (Digital and Conventional), Nuclear Medicine, Bone Densitometry, OPG & Lateral Cephalometry and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) PET/CT.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Referrals
Specialists and GPs are able to refer patients to our MRI facilities at the
- Brisbane Mater Private Hospital
- Greenslopes Private Hospital
- Toowoomba St Vincent’s Hospital
- Mackay Mater Private Hospital
- Townsville Mater Private Hospital
- Cairns Private Hospital
If referred by a specialist, patients may be eligible to claim partial reimbursement through Medicare.
General practitioners are also able to refer patients to undertake MRI procedures, however patients will be unable to receive Medicare reimbursement.
Women's Centre Referrals
Queensland X-Ray specialist women's centres at Mater Private Hospital and Sunnybank Private Hospital have their own referral stationary. This stationary captures all the necessary information required to refer to one of our centres. However, you can use the general referral pads if you'd prefer.
Dental Referrals
Dentists and Orthodontists are able to refer patients for orthopantomography (OPG) and lateral cephalography procedures.
Chiropractic and Physiotherapist Referrals
Chiropractors and physiotherapists are able to refer patients for plain film procedures of the spine, pelvis and hips.PET/CT Referrals
Our PET/CT Centre at the Mater Medical Centre has it's own referral stationary that is coloured teal green for easy identification. In addition to the refferal pads, we can also provide patient preparation pads for refferers to give to their patients. These can be obtained by contacting your Client Services Officer.
