We would like to explain the structure of our patient accounts and how Medicare contributes towards the cost of your examinations. For each examination there is a Medicare Benefits Schedule Fee which is set by the Federal Government. This fee is then used as the basis to calculate the Medicare Rebate (subsidy) paid on behalf of individual patients.
A notated copy of an account is available to view by click here. This copy may assist you in reading your account and understanding what amount is owing and what has been paid.
If you have any questions regarding your account please contact your nearest Queensland X-Ray practice.
Outpatients
For Outpatients, the Medicare Rebate is 85% of the Government Medicare Benefits Schedule Fee. The Medicare Benefits Schedule rules and regulations set by the Federal Government are very complex and there are numerous exceptions to the above principles. In particular, there are some examinations for which no rebate is paid.
We do understand that some people in our community are financially disadvantaged. In recognition of this, it is Queensland X-Ray’s policy to “bulk-bill” Government aged pensioners and health care card holders for most examinations. If imaging is performed outside normal practice hours, an additional charge may be incurred which is not claimable on Medicare or your private insurance. It is advisable that patients consult the practice they are attending for the current fees and billing policy.
We would appreciate full payment of your accounts on the day of examination. You may then claim back the relevant rebate from Medicare.
Hospital Inpatients
For Inpatients, the Medicare Rebate is 75% of the Schedule Fee. If you are privately insured inpatient within a hospital, the Federal Government allows your private health fund to pay a further portion of your private accounts.
If you require any services by Queensland X-Ray during a stay in hospital, you will receive a separate account from us. Queensland X-Ray is a separate entity to the Private Hospitals.
For your convenience, Queensland X-Ray renders a weekly account that will itemise the examinations that you have had in the preceding week. You will be able to claim reimbursement through Medicare and your private health insurance.
