Organisation ROME Haiti
The 2009 tragedy in Haiti has caused a huge outpouring of support and aid from the international community.
In partnership with Organisation ROME Haiti, Sonic Healthcare had been providing aid to Haiti for 10 years before the devastating earthquake struck.
Sonic was therefore able to provide aid when it was most needed – immediately after the 7.0 earthquake hit the town of Léogâne, just a few kilometres west of the nation’s capital Port-au-Prince.
Organisation ROME Haiti, which was recently acknowledged as one of the top 15 not-for-profit organisations in Haiti, have deployed approximately 200 physicians, nurses and medical assistants to Haiti since the earthquake devastated the country. The deployment was to an otherwise neglected area of Port-au-Prince known as Carrefour.
The mayor of Carrefour “turned over” the area’s sports complex to ROME for operations. Additional medical personnel will continue to be deployed indefinitely. The Haitian government has given ROME the responsibility to co-ordinate reconstruction and relief efforts for the city of Gressier.
