Changes to Physiotherapist item Numbers

Effective from 1 January 2010, Government legislation that could affect patients whom are sent for spinal imaging has changed. These changes have been recommended to minimise radiation exposure to patients. From this date, each patient will only be permitted one rebateable referral in any 12 month period for either a three region spinal or four region (cervical, thoracic, lumbosacral and sacrococcygeal) spinal x-ray.

Due to these developments, there has been an item number change.
PLEASE NOTE - These item numbers and changes are only for use by Physiotherapists, Chiropractors and Osteopaths.

  • X-Ray of the hip joint (57715)
  • X-Ray of the pelvic girdle (57712)
  • X-Ray of the cervical spine (58100)
  • X-Ray of the thoracic spine (58103)
  • X-Ray of the lumbosacral spine (58106)
  • X-Ray of the four regions of the spine – (cervical, thoracic, lumbosacral and sacrococcygeal region) (58120)
  • X-Ray of the sacrococcygeal (58109)
  • X-Ray of two regions of the spine (58112)
  • X-Ray of three regions of the spine (58121)

Nuclear Medicine now offered at Southport Practice

Queensland X-Ray is now performing nuclear medicine scans at our Gold Coast, Southport practice, 128 Queen Street.

We have recently installed an advanced SPECT unit (single-photon emission computed tomography) which features a dual-headed Gamma camera with an integrated low dose CT scanner.

SPECT enables co-registration of the metabolic information of nuclear medicine with the anatomical detail of CT for accurate localisation of isotope uptake. The addition of the CT component to the study overcomes a common issue in nuclear medicine studies where soft tissues absorb (or attenuate) the gamma rays which can lead to degraded image quality.

For more details regarding the costs of procedures please contact our Southport practice on (07) 5581 0920.

Queensland X-Ray PET/CT
Centre now open

Queensland X-Ray recently opened their new PET/CT Centre which houses a 64-slice PET/CT scanner. This scanner is the first-of-its-kind in the southern hemisphere and is revolutionising diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

64-slice PET/CT is an exciting new hybrid form of imaging in which the superior anatomical imaging of high-resolution contrast-enhanced CT is fused with physiologic and metabolic diagnostic information of nuclear medicine.
