New 3T MRI
Queensland X-Ray has now completed the installation of the new Siemens Ver
io 3T MRI scanner into our new radiology practice in Coorparoo. This is the first of these advanced MRI units to be installed in Queensland.
3-Tesla (3T) MRI sets the new benchmark in clinical MR imaging. 3T high field strength MRI results in a two-fold increase in signal to noise compared with 1.5Tesla (1.5T) MRI. This translates to images of much higher resolution than can be achieved at 1.5T and at significantly reduced scan times. The end result is better image quality and greater diagnostic accuracy.
MRI studies of the musculoskeletal system, brain and skull base, spine, neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis are consistently higher in quality than those obtained at 1.5T. 3T MRI also offers major advantages in cerebral and body angiography.
Musculoskeletal MRI examinations reach new levels of resolution with the use of higher definition matrices and ultra-short echo times that result in visibility of the substructure of articular cartilage and other joint structures not delineated at 1.5T.
Advanced neuro imaging including cerebral perfusion, diffusion tensor imaging, arterial spin labeling, MR spectroscopy and functional neuro imaging all develop a new significance, reproducibility and practical application at 3T.
The Siemens Verio 3T also features an ultra-wide 70cm diameter bore for improved patient comfort. The larger bore size and shorter bore length reduce patient claustrophobia and allow functional assessment of the musculoskeletal system, not possible in conventional MR scanners. The wide bore can also accommodate larger patients previously denied access to MRI.
With Queensland X-Ray’s state-wide integrated PACS, the MRI studies performed can be accessed and reported by experienced sub-specialty MR Radiologists located at any Queensland X-Ray practice.
