Interventional Procedures

An important point of difference for Queensland X-Ray is our many practices based within hospitals. Our hospital practices are ideal for performing interventional procedures as we have highly skilled staff, specialised equipment, and onsite medical specialists for further consultation and collaboration. Many Interventional procedures can also be performed in our community practices

What is an interventional procedure?

Interventional procedures involve using a medical imaging modality (CT, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy etc) to enable a radiologist to perform a diagnostic or therapeutic procedure on a patient.

For example, a CT may be used to help locate a body part for tissue sampling / biopsy or drainage OR to position a needle for injection that is aimed at helping limit pain - for example facet or nerve root injections for back pain.

Is there any special preparation?

The preparation required for these procedures is likely to differ slightly but our reception staff will discuss this when booking appointments and our team of radiologists, radiographers and nurses will discuss exactly what will happen in detail when patients arrive for their appointment.

How much does it cost?

Queensland X-Ray offers bulk billing and concessions for some of its services. The cost of examinations depends on a number of factors which will be clarified when making a booking or arriving at the practice.
